2. (a) For this rule note the central cell lives in the next generation if it
is alive in the current generation, regardless of the states of the cells
around it. Also, the central cell is dead in the next generation if it is dead in
the current generation, regardless of the states of the cells around it.
That is, all live cells stay alive and all dead cells stay dead. The
pattern is vertical bars of live cells, one under each live cell of the
