Examples

Range of f is [1,infinity); domain of g is [-4,4].
(Domain of g) intersect (Range of f) on the diagonal is AB.
Project AB horizontally to the graph of f.
x2 + 1 = 1 implies x = 0.
x2 + 1 = 4 implies x = +/- sqrt[3].
Then project vertically to the x-axis.
The domain of g(f) is [-sqrt(3), sqrt(3)].
