MATH380 (Fall 2019): Modern Algebra I.

Instructor: Prof. Ivan Loseu (email: ivan.loseu@yale.edu)

Course web page: https://gauss.math.yale.edu/~il282/MAT380_2019

Lectures: TTh 1:00-2:15pm, LOM 205. The first day of class is 8/29, and the last day of class is 12/5.

Office hours: T 2.30-3.30pm, Th 10.30-11.30am in DL 416.

Goals: This course serves an introduction to Commutative and Homological algebra. We will be mostly following [AM] and [HS]. Additional references include [AK] and [E]. There is no required text book.

Grading: Based on 6 homework sets (60%) and a take-home final exam (40%).

Rules: For homework sets, peer discussion is allowed but only after your own thinking; you are also required to write your solution on your own, if it (partially) comes from a discussion.
